3 WAY GRINDCORE KNOCKOUT Round 1 Cd comp° (Blast work)
REGURGITATE (Sweden), ENTRAILS MASSACRE (Germany), SUPPOSITORY (Holland) ; 3 grindcore acts recorded live in berlin in 2002. I like grindcore and extreme music, but 28 minutes of live material is a bit too much for me to take (although the sound quality is decent). Well, if it’s your thing... blastwork@yahoo.com

TEN YEARS FIGHT FEST Dvd (Kafka)
Pretty decent Dvd from Italy, documenting on a festival that took place in late 2004. It’s quite professional : the sound is decent, the image is good, and the interviews are available in 3 languages. There is one song and one interview with each band. Musically, they’re quite varied, but not really my style (modern Hardcore, emo, metal, and old school). The best bands are KAFKA, DOWNRIGHT, HEADED NOWHERE and EVOLUTION SO FAR. Also included : PURIFICATION, DEFDUMP, THE DEATH OF ANNA KARINA (bad emo), etc. http://www.kafka.it (Y.B.)

SECOND VISION #7/ LEAVE ME ALONE #3 fanzine (in Polish)
One nice split zine, but since everything is written in Polish... Argh. It sure looks great. It has columns, personal thoughts, long show & record reviews, interviews (BLACK UNIFORMS, TROCKI, VEG’ASSO (French animal rights group), WORLD DOWNFALL...). Lots of Hardcore, positive hardcore and punk stuff. If I could read Polish I’d buy this straight away. :) stredgar@poczta.onet.pl (Y.B.)

PARKINSON/ DOSA split mCd (Broken noise)
Holy shit ! I would never have recognised PARKINSON if I hadn’t seen their name on the cover. No more crust-punk here, but killer and super-tight grindcore (with a few crust influences - ok). These guys have been around for years, they kick ass ! Too bad their lyrics aren’t translated ! :( DOSA play the same, but aren’t as good musicians. However, their lyrics are translated and the song titles are hilarious : "you call it anarchism, I call it common sense", "we hope our gore lyrics will scare the shit out of you", etc. http://diy-noise.sirch.org (Y.B.)
-
BRIGADA FLORES MAGON "rock or die" Cd (Machete)
Their first album was so great, and the second (mini)Cd so bad in comparison ! This new album stands halfway between the two ; the production is pretty good, the music is decent (but miles away from the killer riffs of the first album), the lyrics are decent (not as bad as on the miniCd, but still pretty basic). I think it’s a band you either love or hate. I respect them for what they are (the first real redskin band in France), but there are a few things I dislike about them (like all tough guy imagery they use). Ok/average stuff. flores_magon@hotmail.com (Y.B.)

ACAO DIRETA "revolta, repudio, confronto, resistencia" Cd (Bombardeio)
Wow, I think this is their 5th album, am I right ? After all these years, these Brazilians still play tight, uptempo, raging Hc-punk. There are still a couple noisy riffs here and there, but less than on their previous album, and I also noticed a couple new metal influences, but maybe it’s just the big powerful production ? Either ways, this ain’t as good as the "entre a bencao e o caos", but it’s still an excellent album !! http://www.acaodireta.cjb.net (Y.B.)

A. 18 "forever after nothing" Cd (Victory)
Featuring ex-members of OUTSPOKEN and INSTED (not on this recording), I thought this just had to be good. And it’s not bad, but I won’t kill anyone for it. A. 18 (Amendment 18 - why are Americans always either obsessed with their God or with their Constitution ?) play New York Hc mixed with noisy and "modern" riffs. Personal lyrics. I was expecting more. http://www.victoryrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
CATHETER/ FUBAR split Cd (Self made god)
Holy shit ! CATHETER’s previous Cd ripped hard, but this one is even better ! They still play fast and tight music, but these new songs sound less grindcore, more thrashcore. They are absolutely awesome ! The third one has a bass line that made me think of HEIMATLOS ! :) FUBAR aren’t as good, they’re more chaotic and typical, but after a few listens I started getting into them because they have a really powerful sound. Nice split, and pretty good politically aware lyrics. http://www.selfmadegod.com (Y.B.)
-
BRIGITTE BOP "back in eul’ berry" Cd (Trauma social)
These guys have been around for a long time and it shows. Their music is really typical French punk-rock (LES RATS, LEGITIME DEFONCE, GONOKOX, LES CADAVRES...) but it’s really well played and well produced, and the lyrics are pretty funny ; they remind me of Geant vert’s (PARABELLUM’s song writer). http://brigittebop.free.fr (Y.B.)
-
AGHAST/ 1000 TRAVELS OF JAWALKATRA split Cd (Waiting for an angel)
These two bands are so similar I didn’t even make a difference between the two when I listened to the Cd. I saw AGHAST live once, and thought they were cool. I kinda enjoyed both bands’ first Cd’s. They both play tight, guitar-driven emo with nice melodies. When I say emo, I don’t mean any of that indie rock shit ; these two bands remind me of early emo-Hc bands like UNDONE, YAGE, ICONOCLAST or ENVY. It ain’t too bad, if you can get past those terrible vocals (as always). http://www.waitingforanangel.com (Y.B.)
-
REMAINS OF THE DAY "hanging on rebellion" Cassette (Insane society)
Their first album was decent, and the second one is the same. They’re good, but offer nothing new ; it’s just emo-crust (how come these two styles ever got to mix ?) with a violin. The lyrics are also a mix between the two styles ; both political and abstract. It’s ok stuff. http://www.insanesociety.net (Y.B.)
-
MIGRA VIOLENTA "superficial" Cd (Les nains aussi)
Geez, their first Cd was pretty bad (let’s say average), what an improvement ! The production and the musicianship are good. The music is fast raging hardcore-punk reminiscent of later LOS CRUDOS. There’s a couple old school and crust influences here and there (I think this mix is becoming popular in south America). This is a pretty good album, it’s only a bit too short (14 tracks in 13 minutes !), I could do without the screaming vocals, and the cliché lyrics. migraviolenta@hotmail.com (Y.B.)

RAILROAD TO APOCALYPSE Cd comp (Tetanus)
6 extreme/ grind-crust bands. 3 of them didn’t print their lyrics. 3 of them are really metal (they’re the bad ones), and three are more crust oriented. DISARM are cool. They play raging and extreme grind-crust, with very good, deep political lyrics. VERGE OF REASON also write good lyrics, but the music is fairly bad metal. BUD JUNKEES play bad metal as well, and they have an obsession with cannabis (what an exciting life they must have...). ALIENACJA sound a bit more crust, but still too metal for my tastes. MATKA TERESA play grind/crust, they’re not very original, but ok. SPLEEN, from Belgium have funny song titles like "poetry my ass", "I’ll trade my girl for food", and their music is decent, powerful metallic grind. All in all, a decent comp, but way too metal. borysc@tin.it (Y.B.)

APATIA NO "cuando el rumor es informacion" Cd (Noseke)
This is their best record to date. Their earlier ones were a bit basic, their more recent one has a production that’s too clean ; this one is the perfect blend. It’s raw, it’s fast, it’s political... They remind me a bit of PARIAPUNK for instance. They have (almost) no sense of melody and that’s cool. By the way, they’re from Venezuela. http://www.geocities.com/apatiano (Y.B.)

SUBLIME "tribute" Cd (Kung fu)
This Cd is a tribute compilation due to the recent death of SUBLIME’s guitarist/singer. SUBLIME started back in 1988 as a garage punk band from California but quickly started playing varied music, blending styles together with a very good musicianship and punk ethic. This tribute is a success in the way it respect the band’s style by the variety of artists involved in the project. SUBLIME mixed everything from alternative/ garage/ hip hop/ skate punk to ska/ rock steady, and you’ll find all these styles on the compilation. Covered by bands such as FISHBONE, THE VANDALS, AVAIL, LOS LOBOS, JACK JOHNSON, PENNYWISE, NO DOUBT... and way more, here you got 18 tracks (+ 2 bonus songs not available on non-European pressings) of ska, garage, surf punk and melodic Hc... A very wide range of music that’s quite refreshing. This is also a benefit for foundations that help out children in the fields of education, health and art, and that also help in cases of addiction recovery. http://www.kungfurecords.com (P.B.)

JUDGE "what it meant" Cd (Revelation)
In a time of revival for old school Hc & reunion shows for plenty of original bands from the Ny & Ca areas, it was bound to happen... This goes without saying, "what it meant" is the long awaited discography by this classic Ny City based SxE band. 28 tracks in about 70 minutes. All their tracks are included here, the infamous "New york crew" ep on SCHISM, the "bringin’ it down" Lp and "there will be quiet" Ep on REVELATION, and the unproduced & bootlegged "Chung king can suck it" 10" session... (which I must admit I’m very glad to see appearing here !) + a previously unreleased track from the "Don fury demo". The Cd comes with a pretty thick booklet with pictures, artwork, lyrics & biography written by Porcell. For those of you discovering Hc way after JUDGE existed, they were probably one of the most hated/ loved SxE bands from the end of the 80’s, and probably one of the first "hatecore" bands, which paved the way for many "new school" & "hardline" bands to come. Blending old school music with a louder, rawer & darker sound, with vocals full of anger and frustration, and with "in your face" lyrics, both personal & frustrated. Tight musicianship (featuring members from YOUTH OF TODAY, GORILLA BISCUITS, ALONE IN A CROWD...), lyrics dealing with ignorance, racism & prejudices, lost friendship, the SxE philosophy, violence & hate, and probably the most "tough guy" & laughable song ever "New York crew"... Listening to this discography will show you that the music from the late 80’s isn’t outdated yet, and I am glad to see that as opposed to many classic reissue this one doesn’t seem to have been remixed and remastered... it was and still is powerful enough to compete with today’s releases. So if you want to check a piece of Hc history, you should pick this up. http://www.revelationrecords.com (P.B.)

POISON IDEA "the best of Poison idea" Cd
When receiving this (which was actually released a few years ago... Y2K) I was afraid it would turn up to be a real best of, with a couple classic songs, a couple live songs, maybe a few from the more rock’n’roll period of the band, making the whole thing unequal. To my great surprise it wasn’t the case. All tracks are previously released okay ?, but some are since long out of print so this is a good way to get these titles for a decent price again... It could have been a volume 1 from a complete discography but anyway. This compiles the following (entire) records : "learning to scream" Ep , "kings of punk" Lp, "pick up your king" Ep and "record collectors are pretentious assholes" Ep (with bonus)... Meaning you have in my opinion most of POISON IDEA’s classics here. 40 songs in all, approximately 68 minutes... Portland’s most long lived & controversial Hc-punk band delivering tight and loud Hc-punk blending in melodies, rocking tunes and a fast pace, with vocals fuelled with hate (and alcohol... :)). I’m also glad to see that the recent reissues on TAANG Records actually include artwork, pictures and... lyrics, which were up to now often left aside. They’re dark, personal and political, dealing with the American way of life, police & state brutality, battered women, revenge, addictions... Definitely powerful, definitely some of the kings of punk ! http://www.taang.com (P.B.)

ADOLESCENTS "the complete demos 1980-1986" Cd (Frontier)
Everything the ADOLESCENTS have ever done apart from the blue album, the "welcome to reality" Ep and the "brats in battalion" Lp, all songs taken from long lost demos and tapes, saved and found again several years later. This is a great document from one of CA’s finest surf punk from the early 80’s. With members from AGENT ORANGE, SOCIAL DISTORTION, THE GERMS... who later went on to form D.I., CHRISTIAN DEATH and... NIRVANA ! Sixteen tracks in about thirty minutes ; all in all a very decent to excellent sound quality seeing some recordings come from Xnth generation tapes ! The sound is of course rawer, less polished (more punk ?) as compared to their vinyl releases. Here you have classic songs and alternate versions of "black sheep", "creatures", "amoeba", "I hate children", "we can’t change the world", etc. It comes with some kind of biography and memories written by former band members as well as part of the lyrics (dealing with the punk scene and the way of life at that time, being an outcast, partying, self destruction and lost hopes, Reagan’s regime, etc). The music is melodic & raw punk-Hc close to bands like AGENT ORANGE, CIRCLE JERKS... Now if you’re not really into demo’s or documents, I’d suggest you’d check out the reissue of the blue album (with bonus) to see what the band was really up to ! http://www.frontierrecords.com (P.B.)

CURL UP AND DIE "unfortunately we’re not robots" C (Revelation)
15 tracks (35" approximately) of modern, fast, angry, and powerful metallic Hc with some dark and technical parts. Bands like CONVERGE and POISON THE WELL come to mind. Tight musicianship. Two songs have a more melodic and emo-ish approach. Lyrics are quite hard to read and are written in a personal way, in a dark/ poetical style. CURL UP AND DIE have since released a new album. http://www.revelationrecords.com (P.B.)

CAKE BOY Dvd (Kung fu)
Cake boy is a DIY film, a comedy shot by punk rocker Joe Escalante (from THE VANDALS). This "movie" is the second attempt bought by KUNG FU records, mixing both music and punk-rock aspects of life. This may not win an award for the best comedy ever, nor one in originality, but it remains funny to watch (in English by the way). A few good and original (goofy) stuff found in the script, some good laughs, some clichés too but all in all a nice time. Now to the story... : Selwyn (aka Cake boy) is an erotic cake baker (and a pretty talented cook) but also a loser, he gets beaten down and abused by his girlfriend, and is forced to leave town in a haste so he founds himself being the roadie for punk stars NO USE FOR A NAME who appear to be as abusive as his former girlfriend... After quitting his new job (or being dumped), he finds another one as a cook in a small café restaurant and meets with an handicapped girl who will bring him encouragement and have him try to fulfil his ambitions... but their way is full of pitfalls anf their happiness is soon to be spoiled by Selwyn’s former girlfriend... The film also includes a punk-rock/ pop soundtrack with such artists as NO USE FOR A NAME, OZMA, YELLOW CARD, USELESS ID, AUDIO KARATE,... etc. The Dvd includes special features (making of, commentary, deleted scenes + a free bonus sountrack Cd). http://www.kungfurecords.com (P.B.)
-
APATIA NO "el ruido de antes..." Cd (Noseke)
Well, I’m disappointed. Their previous Cd was great ; see review elsewhere on this page. The packaging on this one is awesome, but the production is too good, too clean for that kind of music. They still play basic, raging punk-hardcore with political lyrics in Spanish, but it just doesn’t work without the raw, crude, garagey sound of their debut. http://www.geocities.com/apatiano (Y.B.)
-
CIRCLE JERKS "live at the house of blues" Dvd (Kung fu)
Yet another Dvd in the "the show must go off !" series... As usual the gig is approximately one hour long, recorded in multi angle, a professional quality, and the sound is just as close to studio sound as you can get ! 27 tracks of classic punk-Hc... : THE CIRCLE JERKS (featuring Greg Hetson from BAD RELIGION) are back after more than 20 years in the punk-rock world... They deliver 27 tracks that are nearly all hits !!, including songs like "deny everything", "wasted", "nervous breakdown", "back against wall", "Beverly hills"... that have influenced many bands. It is quite good for older punks to see that former bands & members are still active today..., and it’s nice to see 40 year old guys on stage delivering blasting & angry punk-rock anthems. For those of you just discovering punk, CIRCLE JERKS were among the first Californian punk bands, along with AGENT ORANGE, BAD RELIGION, BLACK FLAG & such outfits, their albums "wild in the streets" & "group sex" have become classics. Fans of raw punk hardcore from the eighties like BLACK FLAG, ADOLESCENTS, DESCENDENTS,..., should check it out. http://www.kungfurecords.com (P.B.)

CEKTA KIDZ Cd-r demo
This is a demo with a professionally printed cover. It’s pretty good ! CEKTA KIDS are a Russian band playing New York Hc, but not the horrible metal hybrid that plagued the scene 10 years ago. They actually remind me of early EARTH CRISIS. I wish I could tell you more, but everything’s written in Russian... http://www.cektakidz.ru (Y.B.)
-
ARMAGEDOM "das cinzas ao inferno" Cd (Terrötten)
Brazilian old band reunion. Just as many dis-beat band, they have now turned to more metal sounds, and describe their music as "death-core". Can’t say it moves me much. Fans of metal-punk hybrids should enjoy. Negative lyrics. http://www.armagedom.org (Y.B.)
-
AJENOS A LA TRAGEDIA/ NECESIDAD DE LUCHAR split Cd & Ep (La revuelta)
When I saw them live I loved them so I traded a couple of their records straight away. This is awesome ! This is a split Ep with a full length Cd as bonus, sold for 4 euros ! (the Cd has the Ep tracks + bonus songs + NECESIDAD DE LUCHAR’s first album). This is great punk-Hardcore sung in Spanish, with a good production and political lyrics. AJENOS have nice female vocals and play tight punk-Hardcore. NECESIDAD do the same, with forced & melodic vocals (a la IGNITE, EZIN IZAN, INSTIGATORS) and a few post-Hardcore influences bringing to mind SPLIT LIP or SLAP OF REALITY. Buy it ! larevuelta@sindominio.net (Y.B.)
-
DRUG DEALERS "the pigs are coming" Cd (Mass prod)
I saw this funny band a couple times back when I was living in Brittany. They were quite good. This Cd is the same. They play tight punk-Hardcore with a slight DEAD KENNEDYS sound (because of the nasal vocals). Good sound quality and nihilistic lyrics. http://www.massprod.com (Y.B.)
-
AJENOS A LA TRAGEDIA + NECESIDAD DE LUCHAR, 08/10/2005, @ Raymond bar, Clermont Ferrand (France) (show review)
Nice surprise here ! It’s always the same when you go to a show expecting nothing special. The audience sucked, but the bands ruled ! AJENOS & NECESIDAD are basically the same bands, only with different singers. AJENOS play mid-tempo but raging punk-Hardcore with good female vocals, and a couple melodic lines here and there. NECESIDAD play the same, with a little more variety, and male vocals. The singer insisted on his lyrics to be translated for the audience. Two great bands, both available for your listening pleasure on one Cd/Ep (see review above). (Y.B.)
-
MY PROOF "rain brings hope" Cd-r (self-released)
I guess this is a demo, since it’s a Cd-r, but it’s nicely packaged. This Japanese band could be on GOOD LIFE. They play modern heavy metal, with influences from epic metal, nu-metal, NyHc. Without the gruff vocals, they would sound like EUROPE. http://www.myproof.jp (Y.B.)
-
BIG BUBBA "american trend" Cd (Smart ass)
Another record I took ages to review... Pretty good fast and raw punk from the Usa. STEP AHEAD (Us), NECRACEDIA, GBH or even POISON IDEA come to mind. I wish the production had been a bit better. http://www.smartassrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
CAMERA SILENS "réalité" Cd (Euthanasie)
Wow, wow and wow. They put out a best-off Cd a few years ago and that sucked, so I was stoked to see this proper discography. It’s a nice digipack with a booklet, photos, lyrics, their first album and several bonus songs taken from demos and comps. This is one of the best French bands ever. Great energetic Oï/ street punk with negative lyrics. Classic stuff. It’s only too bad they only recorded 23 songs in 5 years ! http://euthanasie.propagande.org (Y.B.)
-
CAMERA SILENS "rien qu’en trainant" Cd (Euthanasie)
This is the second part of their discography, featuring their more poppy/funky songs. There’s also some awesome tunes on this, and even the more melodic songs are good. This is great French rock with some punk or street-punk influences. I really love this, but I’m glad they split up before recording anything else ! http://euthanasie.propagande.org (Y.B.)

HEY YOU #8 fanzine (in French)
SURVET SKINS Cd (Euthanasie)
Joke band/ side-project/ ironical Oï from Paris. Hmm... Decent, but far from being witty, Oï-punk with a kinda silly band name and lyrics. Not really good, but not too bad either. http://euthanasie.propagande.org (Y.B.)
-
AMANDA WOODWARD "ultramort" mCd
This digipack is nice, but for a miniCd reissue, it is sold at an expensive price. The music sounds so much like MOSS ICON, it hurts. But MOSS ICON didn’t have those terrible whining vocals. The lyrics are abstract and don’t really go anywhere. Emo-pop ? http://www.sans-vie.com (Y.B.)
-
M.D.C "magnus dominus corpus" Lp/Cd (Yellow dog/ Sudden death)
I think what I’ve always enjoyed with MDC is that despite their time spent within the scene they have remain "fresh". What I mean is that you never get twice the same thing, their music is at the same time speedy, thrashy Hc mixed with jazz, rock, blues or even with metal while the lyrics are highly political & often written in a humoristic or ironical way... This one is no exception, you almost get the whole original line up playing catchy & varied riffs of Hc-punk with the typical voice of Dave Dictor ; at times melodious, yet angry and honest. What I enjoy too is that you get a real long player for your cash... : 18 tracks in probably 40 minutes of music. Lyrics are well written & deal with a whole variety of topics ; about ecological & environmental destruction by the states & multinational corporations, Us foreign policy and terrorism, punk getting fashionable, cops, George Bush and how nice he is ;), bosses and situation in the workplace, and much more (they even included a nice cover of "no more cops" as well). You could think it’s all depressive but you’d be wrong... and if you do feel down, just listen to "Life but how to live it ?" which is a true anthem of hope & positive attitude ! Now I can’t wait to to see them live again ! www.yellowdog.de or www.suddendeath.com (P.B.)

THE EPILEPTICS/ FLUX OF PINK INDIANS split Cd (Dr Strange)
Two classic & typical early Uk anarcho-punk bands. 21 rare tracks taken from live recordings, demos and Ep’s. This is an ok reissue. Just like all anarcho-punk bands, they wrote some truly great songs, but also some totally boring intellectual/experimental ones. I taped the good ones and sold my Cd back. Do the same. http://www.drstrange.com (Y.B.)
-
THE CHEIFS "holly-west crisis" Cd (Dr Strange)
More and more reissues. This time, it’s an old Californian punk band. They were from the early eighties, but have a strong ’77 sound. Pretty good, but they arrived too late for that kind of music ! http://www.drstrange.com (Y.B.)
-
SOA RECORDS mailorder
Damn, this is huge !! It may even be bigger than my own catalogue, and the prices are decent too !! All the records are split in four main categories : hardcore, punk/oï, grind/metal, and crust. http://www.soarecords.it (Y.B.)
-
SOA RECORDS Tshirts
Well, the regular catalogue is cool, but this one sucks hard ! It’s all unauthorized/bootleg T-shirts. Dozens of punk & Hardcore shirts done in the back of the bands. Only one colour-print, 7 euros, only big names in the scene... :( http://www.soarecords.it (Y.B.)

VIOLENCE #6 fanzine
I was not expecting such a metal-oriented zine here. This is the kind of mag you’d expect to find in stores ; glossy cover and very professional layout. Violence comes from Poland, but is all written in English, and all dedicated to extreme music : punk, hardcore, metal, thrashcore, grindcore, crust, noise. On the whole I thought it was pretty good, with reviews, ads, columns, and interviews with INHUME, SUNRISE, ANODYNE, DESPISED ICON, DAUGHTERS, BREATHER RESIST, FUBAR, MAKTA TERESA and many more. But most of the interviews bored me ; the questions were okay but the (metal) bands boring and only interested in music. Another thing that got on my nerves was the number of times the editors used the words : extreme, brutal, crushing, punishing, intense, murderous, ripping... I mean, come on. And there was not one single bad review. ;) http://www.seflmadegod.com (Y.B.)

PROTESTA #76 mailorder catalog
De plus en plus balèze cette liste, fans de punk-rock français, tout est là à des prix très honnètes ! (2-3 euros le Ep, 7-8 le Lp, et 9-10 le Cd environ). traumasocial@yahoo.fr (Y.B.)
-
-
FOLKCORE "petazetak" Cd (Cooperaccion)
Pretty cool Basque Hardcore, with maybe a couple fusion influences (think : KARGOL’S, NEGU GORRIAK, etc). I like the singing in Basque a lot. The sound is good, the lyrics seem to be of a political nature ; it’s an ok record. http://www.euskalnet.net/scoty (Y.B.)
-
MAYHEM WITHOUT MERCY Cd compilation (Madskull)
Subtitled : "a Hardcore Punk-rock tribute to VENOM". Get the idea ? 20 american and dutch Oï, Hardcore, punk, Rock’n’roll bands covering the kings of heavy metal. I don’t like tribute albums, and I didn’t care for the rock’n’roll bands ; The only 3 bands I enjoyed were the Hardcore ones (MILKMAN, BREZHNEV and DANDARE), and I think the metalheads will tear their hair off when they hear this comp°. :( http://www.madskullrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
SCUM NOISE "ecotechnological disaster - total discography" Cd (Rotthenness)
At last a discography by this prolific Brazilian crust-punk/ dis-beat band. One hour, 39 tracks taken from Ep’s, Cd, demo and compilations. Nothing groundbreaking here, but they do a good job at imitating DISCHARGE, ANTI-CIMEX, DOOM and the likes. How about a lyric sheet next time ? http://www.nfhcrec.hpg.com.br (Y.B.)
-
PIREXIA "cronicas urgentes latinoamericanas" Cd (Fragment)
Is this a discography or a an album ? PIREXIA hail from Uruguay, and play nice & emotional melodic hardcore. Actually, what annoys me with them is that it sounds like they haven’t found their style ; either not melodic enough, or not punk enough. But they sound different, and that’s refreshing. Socially aware lyrics, too. http://www.pirexia.com (Y.B.)
-
CALAVERA "l’humanité combat" Cd-r (self released)
So this is the new French underground rap sensation. Together with PILOOPHAZ and a couple others, this band has a punk background but plays rap, with very political lyrics. Actually, I believe the lyrics are a bit too simplistic or naïve for me, but I still like them better than 98% "rap" bands. The music is ok, quite melodic, not really groundbreaking but I think all rap bands sound the same these days. I was expecting more, but as I said, this is ok stuff. calavera@netcourrier.com (Y.B.)
-
KANSAN UUTISET/ DESTRUCKTIONS split Cd (Propaganda)
The first time I listened to it, I didn’t like it, until I found out these bands were in facts pioneers of the Finnish punk scene ; this Cd features two Lp’s from 1982 & 1983. KANSAN UUTISET are ok ; a bit basic, and a bit more punk than DESTRUCKTIONS who are truly great. Brings to mind IMPACT, FINAL BLAST, DISCHARGE, ANTI CIMEX, RATTUS, etc, etc. What sucks is there’s no lyric sheet included, no photos, and very few information about the bands/songs. http://www.voxpopuli.propagandarec.com (Y.B.)

A MONUMENTAL DESTRUICAO DA VIDA #2 Cd compilation (Usina de sangue)
This cd kicks off with twelve good tracks by two bands : SICK TERROR and SELFISH. They are the ones with the most "traditional" Hardcore sound on the comp. Unfortunately, the next 4 bands all play an hybrid mix of punk/ crust/ grind/ metal that is ok, but far from being great (LIFE IS A LIE, DOG SOLDIER, SOCIAL CHAOS and BLOODSPIT NIGHTS). AJAX FREE sucks (experimental techno-Hardcore blur). usinadesangue@hotmail.com (Y.B.)
